Driving Safety Tips in Cambodia

Driving in Cambodia can be different from Western countries. Traffic flows naturally, and awareness is very important.

Here is a simple safety guide for visitors riding in Siem Reap:

Drive Slowly & Stay Alert

Traffic can be unpredictable.

Keep your speed moderate
Watch for sudden turns
Expect vehicles entering from all directions

Keep to the Right

In Cambodia, vehicles drive on the right side of the road.

Be careful at intersections — not all drivers stop completely.

Watch for Animals & Pedestrians

Especially outside the city or near temple areas like Angkor Wat, you may see:

  • Dogs
  • Cows
  • Cyclists
  • Children
  • Always slow down in rural areas.

Always Wear a Helmet

Helmets are required by law and extremely important for your safety.

We provide helmets with every rental.

Be Careful During Rain

Roads can become slippery during the rainy season (May–October).

Reduce speed and avoid sudden braking.

Avoid Late Night Riding

Street lighting can be limited in some areas.
If possible, return before very late hours.

Do Not Use Your Phone While Riding

If you need GPS:

Stop safely first
Or use a phone holder (we can provide one)

No Alcohol & Driving

Police checkpoints are common in tourist areas.
Never drink and ride.

Important Note

Drivers must be confident riders and responsible for their own safety.
An International Driving Permit is recommended.
